One of the best parts of email marketing is that you can reach people quickly with your message and see measurable results after each campaign. However, you may be pondering the quality of your list after seeing your reporting as time goes on. That leads us to how you procure your list of recipients and how you can better qualify these people.
How to get contacts
There are a few ways you can come up with your list of contacts. You could upload a list of contacts to your email marketing system that you have qualified on your own to receive your campaigns. (Of course this list should be contacts that expect to hear from you via your campaigns). This is important as simply adding more and more names of general contacts can be considered as “spamming” which you want to avoid. Allowing users to sign up themselves is always the best practice as they will most likely result in you having a better list. Users can do this in 2 ways – single opt-in and double opt-in.
Single opt-in
Single opt-in is when all the user has to do is simply add their email address to the sign up form and they will then begin receiving campaigns. This is the most easy way to allow them to sign up.
Double opt-in
Alternatively, you could offer a double opt-in sign up system. This asks the user to provide their email address, then they will receive an email in which they need to confirm their registration. This process does involve an extra step but it reduces spam as well as increases the interest level of the user which in turn may help better the quality of your list.
