No matter what you are trying to accomplish whether it is a cold outreach email or following up with a client who you haven’t heard from in a while, what you write in your subject line can impact your probability for it being read. Everyone has a busy life these days and we all get many emails. Here are some tips on keeping your emails from getting lost in a black hole of inboxes.
Be succinct – According to studies, the shorter, the better for subject lines. Keeping to fewer characters typically results in the most opens.
Get personal – Subject lines that include the recipient’s name or references something about them typically results in doubling the open rates than those not personalized.
Include details – It can be challenging to include much while keeping this brief, but aim to generate interest by including as many specific keywords that are relevant to the recipient as possible.
Don’t give everything away – Studies showed that subject lines that piqued interest without divulging full details yielded higher opens. For example, e commerce websites that had customers who left a full cart would follow up with an email titled “you forgot something” which garnered higher opens.
